San Diego Country Club is honored to host the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship on August 7-13, 2017 (practice rounds are August 5 and 6).
The Club would be unable to host this event without the help of 400 dedicated male and female volunteers. Volunteer recruitment launched in January, 2017 for San Diego Country Club members and any person over the age of 14 can volunteer after mid-January.
Descriptions of most of the volunteer positions available at the championship are listed below. When registering, you will have the opportunity to select your preferred volunteer position. Volunteer positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so please register early. Volunteers will be trained in advance of the event in the duties of their selected position. The $50 volunteer package will include the volunteer uniform (two official volunteer shirts and a hat), breakfast or lunch during any shift, and access to the on-site volunteer headquarters facility. Transportation to the golf course will be provided by continuously running shuttle buses to and from the volunteer parking area near J St. Marina in Chula Vista.

MARSHALS will direct the gallery, help with spectator safety and assist players in locating their shots. At times, marshals will hold a rope across the fairway to keep spectators far-enough behind the players. Marshals must have a significant understanding of the game of golf.
SCOREBOARD AND STATUS BOARD VOLUNTEERS will work with the official scorer in displaying all hole-by-hole scores on the scoreboard or display the status of the matches on scoreboard-like structures around the golf course.
PRACTICE RANGE VOLUNTEERS will assist players on the range, display name signs, and be sure that practice balls are available.
TEE REFRESHMENTS VOLUNTEERS will transport water, sports drinks, ice and snacks from the clubhouse to coolers located on each tee and will continually check the coolers throughout the day. Tee refreshments volunteers must be comfortable operating a golf cart on the golf course, have a significant understanding of the game of golf, and be able to repeatedly lift 40 lbs.
ACCESS CONTROL VOLUNTEERS will act as greeters welcoming guests at locations
around the club grounds and check championship credentials to ensure that only guests and officials with proper credentials are able to access restricted areas. Greeters will staff an on-site information desk, greet spectators as they enter the championship grounds, distribute championship grouping guides and answer spectator questions.
REGISTRATION VOLUNTEERS will assist the Committee Co-chairs in welcoming players and officials to the club when they arrive and guide them in the completion of the registration process by staffing specific registration stations, and lead them on tours of the clubhouse and locker room. SDCC clubhouse knowledge is required.
VOLUNTEER SERVICES VOLUNTEERS will staff the Volunteer HQ tent and will welcome volunteers, check them in for their shifts, oversee radio distribution, communicate volunteer position assignments and report no-shows to committee chairs.
LOCKER ROOM VOLUNTEERS will assist the committee co-chairs in the players’ locker room throughout the championship and ensure snacks, drinks and other supplies are always available, as well as assist players with any other requests.
WALKING SCORERS will walk with a group of players and enter score data into a tablet device that is provided by the USGA. Walking 18-holes is required and will cover all rounds on August 7-13.
STANDARD BEARERS will walk 18-holes with each match and carry a sign (approximately 15 pounds) displaying the status of the match (standards are used only on August 9-13).
MARRIOTT MISSION VALLEY HOSPITALITY DESK (first weekend) volunteers will help to answer questions for players and their families and point them to the shuttle bus stop.
